BR Naturals was created to make a product that is 100% natural and safe to use, but at the same time smells good, feels good, and is good for your body – all in one product. This meant that our decisions around ingredient choices and production methods were based on a very selective process. We can happily say that our products are true to our mission statement.
There are many reasons why we think you’ll try us and stick with our products once you’ve experienced them. These reasons are what allow us to be the best that we can be in delivering an amazing product to you.
So, the top 5 reasons on why BR Naturals may be for you!
Our soap is made using an ancient technique we’ve incorporated and adapted with the additional use of modern technology. We use something called the Cold Press Method for soap making.
This process can take up to six weeks to complete from start to finish. The first step of this method is to mix fatty acids with an alkali aqueous solution to trigger a reaction known as saponification.
Saponification can take up to a day of boiling the mixture up to as high as 90°C to assure that the caustic alkali reacts with the fatty acids so it is no longer dangerous. After saponification the mixture is left to cool back down to room temperature. The end product is soap. Before using it, it is left to cure for 6 weeks in a dry and cold area to allow all the extra water to evaporate.
This is the way our grandmothers used to make soap, as did their grandmothers, and all the generations dating back to the early dawn of civilization.
We know this because there are archeological findings of a Sumerian tablet dating back to 2200 BC with a formula for soap consisting of water, alkali, and cassia oil.
This particular method of soap making was used throughout history. It was passed on from the early civilizations to the Greeks, Romans, Celts, Vikings, French, British, early North American colonists. Eventually it was passed on to us; the generations of the modern era.
The technological advancements we have now make it easier for soap makers today to do their job. We don’t need to prepare our own alkalis by running rainwater through wood ashes like our ancestors had to do. In addition, we have access to technology like stick blenders, microwaves, plastic molds, and wire cutters that simplify everything and speed up the process of making handmade cold processed soap. We have a wide variety of oils, fragrances, and herbal additives to choose from that are easily accessible from food stores or specialized online vendors.
Did you know that soap is still made with lard or tallow as one of the main ingredients for fat because of its easy accessibility and very low costs? Don’t believe us? Just look at the ingredients list on any of the body bars sold by big international corporations and you will see tallow or lard listed as their main ingredient.
We at BR Naturals are repulsed by the idea of using animal fats to clean ourselves! We think it’s just disgusting to clear our skin’s oils with pork or beef fats. Just picture yourself in the shower lathering your skin, holding a chunk of pork lard in your hand…Yuk!
That’s why, in our company, we make soap using 100% natural top grade vegetable oils derived from plants. These oils are kind and nourishing to the skin and cleanse it just as well, or even better, than animal fats.
We are allowed to call our soap bars soap! This might sound strange at first. However, in reality, most of the bars you see on the shelves of stores cannot be called “soap”. Think about it. On the packaging of these “soap bars” you’ll often see the words “body bar”, “cleansing bar” or “beauty bar”. That’s because legally, those products are not even considered to be soap at all, and cannot be referred to as such.
In fact if you look at the definition of soap in the dictionary it will be defined as “a substance used with water for washing and cleaning, made of a compound of natural oils or fats with sodium hydroxide or another strong alkali, and typically having perfume and coloring added.”
We create two types of soap bars at BR Naturals. One type is a 100% natural soap bar that is scented with essential oils. The other type features scents that are derived from synthetically enhanced fragrance oils. This feature makes the second type of bars we make approximately 98% natural. This 2% difference is largely because 1.8-2.2% of the recipe’s total weight for each bar is composed of this synthetically derived fragrance oil.
We resort to the use of fragrance oils to give our soaps exotic and flamboyant scents that we cannot derive from natural essential oils. Cosmetic regulation bureaus around the world approve these fragrances and we assure they are safe to use despite being chemically derived.
Despite the use of synthetic fragrances in some of our soaps we still believe our products are a lot better than the so-called “cleansing bars” on store shelves that are made by big multi-national corporations.
These soaps contain all kinds of synthetically derived chemical surfactants, detergents, foaming agents, and preservatives that are known to penetrate your skin. Most of them contain carcinogenic components. After long-term use they can cause skin cancer, kidney problems, and liver malfunctions.
Since our skin does not contain the proper enzymes to decompose these types of chemicals, they are slowly absorbed into our skin, changing our skin’s structure. Some of them can even alter the genetic structure of our DNA.
These ingredients used by big corporations are used because their price is much cheaper than the equivalent natural substitute that is non-harmful and of higher quality. This is done without regard to how bad and harmful these components truly are.
We believe our products to be genuine and generally beneficial to all skin types. Many people that have tried our soap have told us that after showering with it they don’t feel the need to use a skin conditioner because our products do not leave their skin feeling dry.
This is because our formulas and recipes are carefully structured to help keep your skin soft and healthy-looking with use over time. All of our soaps use one or more skin emollients to keep your skin soft and silky. Even after stripping away the oils that are on your skin, like soap should (dirt, grease, sweat), they replenish your skin’s natural oils with their own vegetable oils (fatty acids).
A good example of this is Castor Oil, Ricinus communis. Castor Oil is an important component in all of our different soap types. It is known for leaving a protective coating on skin that draws moisture from the air into the skin. This quality prevents the skin from drying and keeps moisturizing it, even after use. Each of our soaps has similar properties that can leave your skin soft, nourished, silky, and moisturized.
